The story of Orchard Hills began on January 20, 1963, when a small group started meeting at Orchard Hills Elementary in Novi. Dr. Francis Dubose was the area missionary at that time, and his family formed the nucleus of what was to become Orchard Hills Baptist Church. By October of 1964, the church was constituted and began meeting at its current location on Novi Road.
The first pastor was Fred Traschel, and the interim pastor before his arrival was Willard Martin from Livonia Baptist Church. The Orchard Hills family has cherished and loved many pastors over the years, including Tom Martin, Robert Green, Gary Switz, Ken Stevens, Lee Vandenberg, Charles Dill, Jerry Straight, and now of course, Pastor Jon Hix.
When the church began in 1964, our current fellowship hall served as our sanctuary. As the church family grew over the next two decades, there became a need for more space. In 1984, we began a building project which included the addition of a new sanctuary, home to our worship services today.
As God continues to bless our congregation, we have committed ourselves to another building program. This will provide us with both the expanded and updated facilities that are necessary for continued growth of our ministry. While this is a great leap of faith in today’s economy, we trust that God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.”—Ephesians 3.20
